The gardens at Wirreanda Estate

Enjoy a relaxing evening in our pleasant gardens. The property is “Wirreanda estate” but don’t be fooled by the name, there are no wine grapes or a winery here, but a great comfortable place to stay and wile away the time while relaxing in our tranquil and extensive garden and bush land. “Wirreanda” means the place of trees; we have an ongoing planting program in place so as we can live up to the name “Wirreanda”.

The chalet is set amidst both natural bush and parkland type gardens, which are available to guests for their relaxation and of course a Bar-B-Q. With seating and relatively private and spacious areas, visitors will have a measure of privacy in which to indulge in the selection of beverages which are available from the reception area, along with pre-packaged Bar-B-Q packs of meat and fish.

Camellias, Rhododendrons, and Azaleas grow well in Tasmania’s cool climate and a garden displaying these beautiful flowering shrubs is being developed at this time.

The best time of the year to see these wonderful flowering shrubs is in the spring to early summer.

For the energetic person there is the climb up to the top of the property where you can view the surroundings and especially, “Oyster Cove”.

The early morning riser may also catch a glimpse of some of the native fauna that abounds the property. The favorite at the present is the family of “Forester” kangaroo’s that graze on the native grasses with a baby Joey feeding from the mothers pouch.

The ambience of the area is relaxing, with the long summer days and lovely evenings, a candle light dinner in the gardens is a must.

Seen a wine you fancy from the wine list, then Fran is the resident expert in the wines on offer.

The bird life at Wirreanda is extensive. The yellow tailed black cockatoo, makes his presents felt with his raucous call, especially when the weather is about to turn, as he comes down from the hills to forage and shelter.

A pair of Tasmanian Native Hens make Wirreanda their home and each spring raise up to 5 chicks. A very territorial species, they tend to see off the property any other fauna who com visiting. When the chicks are growing up they are very protective and are a great delight watching their antics.

Green and eastern Rosellas along with Tawny Frogmouth Owls, various birds of prey and introduced species such as the Laughing Kookaburra also are at home here.

Surrounding the accommodation are the beautiful manicured lawns interspersed with varying species of Australian Native and Exotic trees and shrubs. This gives the Chalet a delightful ambience, a sense of tranquility, peace and solitude for those wandering around the spacious gardens.

The water features are well into development and give the visitor that beautiful and restful sound of trickling and falling water .
